House votes to repeal "net neutrality" rules

Network Neutrality is a huge issue that all of us will need to fight to preserve. This measure by the House, that Obama has pledged to veto, would give telecoms absolute power over the Internet and cut out the FCC as a regulator with the ability to protect free speech online.

The protections the existing FCC rules put into federal law restrain telecoms from discriminating against Internet content as follows:
"The rules prohibit phone and cable companies from favoring or discriminating against Internet content and services, including online calling services such as Skype and Web video services such as Netflix that could compete with their core operations. They require broadband providers to let subscribers access all legal online content."
